The Parsons Challenge,Detron Nelson 02/24/1991

Where do you live? What are your everyday activities? Where do you go? What have you overlooked? Discover something new within your familiar surroundings and daily life; this might be an object, event, activity, or location.

Interpret your discovery in three (3) perspectives in any medium and in three (3) statements of approximately 150 words each. Projects may proceed from image to text or text to image. Each interpretation should represent a different perspective or point of view. Each statement should explore your creative and imaginative process and contribute to the work in both form and googcontent.

Media may include drawing, video, photography, sculpture, 3-D work, collage, digital images or any combination of the above. All work and statements must be clearly marked with your name and date of birth

My discovery is of noire,which is the french word for the color black,this color in its purest form can be interpreted in so many ways,but in one way particular which is fashion,this dramatic color has given strength and meaning to many garments that have been designed by renowned fashion designers such as Yohji Yamamato,Ricardo Tisci,and Hedi Slimane.This color was used to portray a certain emotion for every piece of clothing that moved across the runways.Noire,symbolized for so many ideas and products has given me a new take on what it feels like to wear this color.

Perspective #1


The color black or the lacking of light,depending on your definition was greatly overlooked by myself,when choosing my various fashions to wear day in and day out.I was always the one who would gravitate toward the brighter side of the color spectrum,black was seen through my eyes as a very demure color,a lifeless one at that. But over the summer of 2008 after coming home from a long days work,I would look at photos from fashion related websites and blogs that displayed a combination of hundreds of fashion editors and fashion week attendee's drench themselves in the color black. After a short period of time i began feeling inspired to incorporate said color into my style,as the months progressed wearing the color black became a habit for me,it made me feel in some sort a way power,dominant,in-control, and most importantly chic.

Perspective #2


LBD(little black dress) the term is abundantly cited from the movie Breakfast at Tiffany's which starred Audrey Hepburn as Holly Golightly,she throughout the film was fully clad in black with all the designs constructed just for her by Hubert de Givenchy,from the tip top of her head to the shoes that she decided to wear.The question is why black,why not green?why not pink?. Well if you look back in that time and the times now,black has always been construed as being an elegant color,a person of class would wear,for instance a woman,a LBD,this acronym has been around for decades,with that item you know that sex is the name of the game,you are sexy when you have the perfect LBD.There is a "Rule in Fashion" that every woman should own one in order to complete her own wardrobe.

Perspective #3



There are tons of emotions behind this distinctive color,that is why it's such a timeless and classic color because it says many things without one speaking a word.One quote that I remember when I purchased my first sketch book was one of Ricardo Tisci's, who said,"For me,darkness is emotional,sensual,and strong."Being said that the color black has that ubiquitous way of being perceived .One minute it can be of austere nature,the next moment of sex. From my observations in fashion,more specifically the entertainment industry,women wore black to be sexy and classy all at one time,some didn't pull it off but there are factors such a shape and drape that goes along with the garments color,but majority of the fashions were pretty much perfect. Black can be austere,futuristic,gothic,abstract,depressed,fantastical,and much popular then the rest, sexy.

I don't work with a stylist. I definitely do it myself, because I think style comes from within, and you have to add your own personal flair to it—otherwise it's not you.

here are a few pics form a birthday dinner i attended that night,nothing special i just wanted to show you guys...





oh what an eventful weekend i was faced with,i cant believe some of the the things i went through,i was suppose to write my essay for parsons this weekend but i was not in the right mind set,i think monday and tuesday are gonna be the days that i do write it,because im off for both days,yipp yipp for me!




ok now lets get down to the first part of my eventful weekend which set it's course on friday,it all started around 3 am when i woke up and my dragon ring unfortunately was stuck on my finger with no intention in coming off,so i grabbed facial cleanser,butter,and an abundant amount of other lubricants to get that sucker off,i tried and pulled and strained until it stared to chop away my skin(YESS IT WAS THAT TIGHT)so i started having a panic attack(my first ever.)i called 911 i felt stupid explaining the situation,but she said it happens all the time,they sent a an ambulance,which only took 2 min to arrive(but felt like decades because i was so afraid)When they arrived i had my YSL cardigan and some CK briefs on(inappropriate yes)and the first thing they said was your home smells really good,and then they sat me down told me to breathe(didnt help)They told me i had 2 options,i was hoping not surgery,but then he corrected himself and said actually only one,and my heart started racing in that mili second pause,he said that he can cut the ring off my finger with some tool,i was relieved,so he did that,then i said thank you at least 437843 times they went on about there doings outside of my home.I went to sleep with a buttery feeling ,shampoo smelling finger and the Kings of Leon singing in my ears(my new fave band),i was happy and so relaxed and thats the END folks.

i would love to explain the detailed story about last night but let me just sum it up in a few words;

alcohol,dirt,videos,vulgarity,alexander wang,tears,stairs and last but not least MORE ALCOHOL!

i was so ecstatic while i was in class today and i saw the sun come out,when i left to take pictures outside i immediately hopped my AA icon sunnies on my eyes,they are beauty, yes?

i love my vest that i bought form urban outfitters by standard cloth,there brand always has a tiny twist to there basic line of items,in this case my vest has two zippers in the back,and a really big one in the front as you can see,it was worth the $$,the cut/shape of the vest is awesome!




Ive just started my parsons essay(THE PARSON CHALLENGE)I decided to do it on thrift store shopping,i think this is a really good topic to pursue,it's really interesting,i have to use photos from either myself or from some other sources and write 3 perspectives upon them each perspective consists of 150 words each,im gonna try and finish it by the end of the weekend,i have to hurry and send my application so i can be eligible for an interview in new york!!!!!!!!!!!

i need all the luck in the world from you guys,please wish it upon me,i love fashion with every inch of my heart,i know that i will be successful in this industry,im dedicated and ready to learn everything possible about it!








oh in my previous post i mentioned that i received my Doc Martens chelsea boots,they are perfect in size and comfort,i actuall\y wore them to work today,i felt unstoppable in my burger king uniform,im telling you shoes,are just for that reason,EMPOWERMENT!


i actually studded the back of them with my silver studs that came aloose from my belt,i thought two for each shoes was enough,i think it makes a statement,but in a very chic and subtle way,just the way i like em' <3

today has been a wonderful day for me,if i disregard this disgusting weather behavior,several awesome things happened to me today,a lady,a very gracious and beautiful lady i might add,handed me a 50 dollar bill at my job today while i was assisting her in the drive-thru window,she said that she keeps money in her jar,and she hands it out to people who she believes is special or something like that,i kinda blurred out after the money was in my hand.I told her to take the money back we went back and forth for about 1 more minute,and i just said thanks so much with a smile on my face and with my eyes and god bless her,she will be in my prayers tonight!

today after coming home form a strenuous day at work i walked past my christmas tree(which is still UP)and I saw a package under it marked with a red caution tape across it,and inside was to my surprise and relief my Doc Martens Black Patrick chelsea boots!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Im actually wearing them right now as i type,they are so comfortable you have to get a pair and I love the monochromatic design of the shoe,its pretty awesome,im so tempted to stud them with my studs,im gonna conjure up a sketch before i take that step,i took some pictures today my fashion friend charity said that this outfit reminded her of ann demeulemeester ss09 womens show,i was so delighted to hear that,i love her designs!

after school i took some pictures,i think they turned out awesome,but i hope the sun shines soon,i miss taking pics outside ;(
